Under the Residential Tenancy Act, the Director of Residential Tenancy is responsible for setting the maximum annual allowable rent increase each year. This is the percentage amount that a landlord can raise the rent in a 12-month period. Under the legislation, the maximum annual allowable rent increase set by the Director cannot be more than 3%.
The Residential Tenancy Office invites written comments, in English or French, from landlords and tenants on the maximum annual allowable rent increase for 2026. The deadline to submit comments is 4:00PM on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
