Moratorium on Evictions Served for Renovations
Attention Landlords and Tenants: On November 1, 2023, the renovation moratorium expired. This means a landlord may file a Landlord Application for Approval for Renovations/Repairs (Form 6) with the Director of Residential Tenancy seeking to evict a tenant in order to repair or renovate a rental unit.
Important: A landlord must receive the approval from the Director of Residential Tenancy prior to serving an Eviction Notice (Form 4B) to evict a tenant for repairs/renovations that are extensive enough that a tenant must leave the unit while the repairs/renovations are being completed.
ATTENTION LANDLORDS AND TENANTS: On April 8, 2023, the Government of Prince Edward Island repealed the Rental of Residential Property and proclaimed the Residential Tenancy Act and Residential Tenancy Regulations (EC2023-268 and EC2023-269). This means the new Residential Tenancy Act is law as of April 8, 2023.
